PUTIEN

PUTIEN began as a coffee shop in Singapore’s Kitchener Road in 2000 and has since grown into a popular chain with 71 outlets in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Taiwan and Philippines. PUTIEN serves cuisine from the Fujian Province in China: characteristically light, down-to-earth, and flavourful food with an emphasis on fresh ingredients.

PUTIEN has received numerous dining and business awards, including the Michelin Guide Singapore 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 MICHELIN ONE-STAR RESTAURANT Award (Kitchener Road Outlet), Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 BIB GOURMAND RESTAURANT Award (Causeway Bay Outlet), Influential Brands Top Brand in Chinese Restaurant Category in 2015, 5S Excellence Award by RAS, Epicurean Star Award 2012, 2010 Overall Champion of The Restaurant Association Singapore’s Tasty Chef Award, and Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2009.

Uncle Fong and his family emigrated from China to the Singapore in 2000. He began to crave for the cuisine from his hometown in Putian. However, he was not able to find a decent eatery serving Fujian cuisine

Unable to find a decent eatery serving Putian cusine, Uncle Fong decided to set up PUTIEN with a vision to promote Putian cuisine and be the leading Chinese restaurant operator globally. Paying homage to his hometown Putian, Uncle Fong opened the first outlet in Kitchener Road, Singapore in 2000.

Uncle Fong was committed to source for fresh and good quality seafood and would head to Jurong seafood wholesale market to purchase fresh seafood every night. As the saying goes ‘Early bird catches the worm’. He knew that if he is one of the early birds, he will be able to source for fresh and good quality seafood.

The suppliers would often make fun of him and call him a ‘fool’ as most restaurant business will not buy the freshest and good quality seafood as they were not cheap. They often wondered why Uncle Fong was willing to

However, Uncle Fong continued this practice without fail for years and the seafood suppliers would reserve and sell the best seafood to him.

These suppliers are now PUTIEN’s loyal guests because they knew that they will be served good quality food when they dine in PUTIEN restaurant.

Sourcing for the best quality ingredients has always been Uncle Fong’s obsession. Even now, he visits local wholesale markets to source for quality ingredients when he travels.

Uncle Fong’s persistence to use the fresh and good quality ingredients has won the hearts of suppliers in the wholesale seafood market and they gave him a nickname ‘Well-loved restaurant owner’.

Uncle Fong’s unwavering commitment to ‘Quality Ingredients, Original Taste’ is the reason PUTIEN group has received numerous awards and accolades in the last 19 years and has grown into a leading restaurant brand in the region.
