PUTIEN

PUTIEN began as a coffee shop in Singapore’s Kitchener Road in 2000 and has since grown into a popular chain with over 80 outlets in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Taiwan and Philippines. PUTIEN serves cuisine from the Fujian Province in China: characteristically light, down-to-earth, and flavourful food with an emphasis on fresh ingredients.
PUTIEN has received numerous dining and business awards, including the Michelin Guide Singapore 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2021 MICHELIN ONE-STAR RESTAURANT Award (Kitchener Road Outlet), Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2016~2021 BIB GOURMAND RESTAURANT Award (Causeway Bay Outlet), Influential Brands Top Brand in Chinese Restaurant Category in 2015, 5S Excellence Award by RAS, Epicurean Star Award 2012, 2010 Overall Champion of The Restaurant Association Singapore’s Tasty Chef Award, and Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2009.

Uncle Fong and his family emigrated from China to Singapore in 2000. He craved for the cuisine from his hometown in Putian. However, he was not able to find a decent eatery serving Fujian cuisine.

Unable to find a decent eatery serving Putian cuisine, Uncle Fong decided to set up PUTIEN, with a vision to promote Putian cuisine and be the leading Chinese restaurant operator globally. Paying homage to his hometown Putian, Uncle Fong opened the first outlet at Kitchener Road, Singapore in 2000.

Uncle Fong committed to sourcing for fresh and good quality seafood. Every night, he would head to Jurong seafood wholesale market to purchase fresh seafood. As the saying goes, ‘Early bird catches the worm’. He knew that if he is one of the early birds, he will be able to source for the freshest seafood.

The suppliers would often make fun of him,  calling him a ‘fool’ as most restaurant businesses will not buy the freshest and good quality seafood as it was costly. They often wondered why Uncle Fong was willing to.

Without fail, Uncle Fong continued this practice for years. He earned the support from the seafood suppliers, as they reserved and sold only the best quality seafood to him.

These suppliers are now PUTIEN’s loyal guests as they are confident of being served good quality food with the freshest ingredients in PUTIEN restaurant.

Sourcing for the best quality ingredients was always  Uncle Fong’s obsession. Even now, as he travels, he continues to visit local wholesale markets to source for quality ingredients.

Uncle Fong’s persistence to only use fresh and quality ingredients, won the hearts of suppliers in the wholesale seafood market. It earned him the nickname ‘Well-loved restaurant owner’.

Uncle Fong’s unwavering commitment to ‘Quality Ingredients, Original Taste’ , led PUTIEN group to receiving numerous awards and accolades in the last 20 years. It’s first Kitchener Road outlet was also awarded the Michelin One-Star restaurant award. From its humble beginnings, PUTIEN has grown into a leading restaurant brand with more than 70 outlets globally.
